Program Description: This program will provide students the skills in rendering quality direct patient care innovatively since Patient Care Technician (PCT) can be a valuable first step into the world of professional healthcare. Duties mainly focused on working closely with patients, in conjunction with nurses and with other health care team. The curriculum includes classroom, laboratory exercises and supervised clinical hours, which may come in the form of internship or externships. The PCT training program will teach the students the duties and responsibilities of taking vital signs, provide basic patient care (bathing, feeding, catheter care, personal hygiene and grooming, bed making, positioning and turning, assisting patient in range of motion exercise and ambulation, etc.), perform phlebotomy essentials such as proper blood collection and testing procedures, performs standard 12-lead EKG, provides proper wound care, pressure ulcer prevention and much more.

Course Overview: The patient career field has become more innovative and diverse for people seeking to make an impact on the health and well-being of others, and Patient Care Technicians often have more direct contact with patients. Patient Care Technician has a profound effect on the recovery of the people you care for. As vital members of the healthcare team, the profession became more advanced- multi-skilled and cross-trained in venipuncture and EKG and possess a much broader responsibilities and opportunities in healthcare industry may it be in hospital, home health or nursing homes. The program is the path to a world of new opportunities – a world where you can mold your compassionate care which may lead to a bright and successful future. As the PCT training and experience may be useful to pursue to a more advanced healthcare career: 
a.   Objective and Purpose: To train students on practical and real-world experience in  

      patient care.
b.   Length of time required for completion of the program:  Twenty Three (23) weeks

c.   Additional requirements for completion: Final Grade Point Average (GPA) of

      seventy (70%) or above.
d.   Type of Certificate awarded: Certificate of programs completion from TC4HC.  

       Student may take the national examination from National Healthcare Association

       (NHA) to become a Certified Patient Care Technician (PCT), Certified EKG

       Technician, and Certified Phlebotomy Technician.
e.    Patient Care Technician (PCT) duties may vary depending on the size and specialty

       of healthcare facilities, nursing homes or home health. Patient Care Technician may

       specialize in varying areas such as: Collect, report and document data including, but

       not limited to: Vital signs, height, weight, intake and output, oximetry and comfort

       level; Specimens for diagnostic study - urine, stool and sputum, phlebotomy

       essentials such as proper blood collection and  fingerstick for blood glucose

       testing, performing standard 12-lead electrocardiography (EKGs), perform CPR—a

       skill that is valuable inside and outside of the facility,  bed making, assisting in

       ambulation, positioning and turning, performing range of motion (ROM) exercise,

       providing basic patient care, maintains confidentiality for written, verbal and

       computerized information and provide therapeutic communication.
f.   Work Setting: Patient Care Technician may work in hospitals, medical facilities, and

      home health or in nursing homes.
